Swimming & Diving Heads to MAAC Championships
Feb 13, 2008
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head to the 2008 MAAC Championships, February 14-16, at Loyola College. Fairfield looks to improve on last year's performances in which the women finished fifth overall while the men placed seventh.
Senior Liz Lawlor will compete in her last MAAC event for the women's team. Last season, Lawlor placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 breaststroke. She has not finished lower than fifth in either event in the last two years.
Senior Sarah Dent will challenge in the backstroke events. Last season she finished in the top-10 in both the 100 and 200 back.
Divers Katie Yee and Jennifer Silivia will take to the boards for the last time. Last season, Yee took fourth in the 1-meter and sixth in the 3-meter while Silvia finished in the 3-meter and 11th in the 1-meter at MAACs.
On the men's side, senior Sean McGonigle will look to wrap up his outstanding final campaign on a high note. Last season, McGonigle finished 13th in the 1650 free and 14th in the 500 free at MAACs but has since improved upon those times.
Junior Drew Kingman will contend for the top spot in the IM and breaststroke events. Last year, he had a tremendous MAAC Championship performance, setting three individual and a relay record while finishing third in both the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM.
With another year of experience under his belt, sophomore Taylor Stecko will challenge for a top finish in the diving events. Last season, Stecko placed sixth on both boards.
