
Kingman & Stecko Set Records as Stags Continue to Perform Well at MAACs

BALTIMORE, Md. - Junior Drew Kingman (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) broke school records while several other Stags turned in strong performances as the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued action at the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.
Kingman broke his second program record at MAACs with a third place finish in the men's 400-yard IM. Kingman clocked a time of 4:06.38 to shatter his own record of 4:10.18 which was set last season. He also qualified for the ECAC Championships with his performance.
Stecko broke the program record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 410.70 in the prelims earlier this afternoon. The previous standard of 390.15 was set 16 years ago by Matt Baron. In the finals, Stecko posted a score of 401.95 to finish seventh overall and qualify for ECACs.
Fairfield had several strong performances on the women's side as well as rookie Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) recorded an eighth place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.90.The time also qualified her for ECACs. Freshman Allie Russoniello (Middletown, N.J.) also scored for the Stags in the event with a personal best of 2:00.79 which was good for 13th place.
Senior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) notched an eighth place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.54.
Three Stags scored in the 100 back all with ECAC qualifying times. Senior Sarah Dent (Muttontown, N.Y.) led the way with an 11th place finish after notching a time of 1:02.12. She was followed closely behind by junior Megan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) who had a personal best of 1:02.42 to finish 12th. Junior Kaitlyn Buckheit (Exton, Pa.) was 15th with a personal best of 1:03.56.
Senior Rachel Waldstein (Needham, Mass.) was 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:56.06 while freshman Sasha Campbell (Old Greenwich, Conn.) was 15th with a personal best of 4:56.43.
In the other men's action, freshman Jonathan O'Connor (Norwalk, Conn.) placed 11th overall in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.80.
Sophomore Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) placed 14th in the 100 back with a time of 57.81 seconds to finish in 14th place. He also had a personal best in the 100 fly with a time of 54.01 seconds which placed him 15th overall and qualified him for ECACs.
Freshman Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.13.
Senior Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) was 16th in the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.38 while senior Rob Devine (Norwalk, Conn.) was 21st overall with a time of 10:54.71.
Rookie Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) finished 12th in the 3-meter with a score of 233.30.
In the relay events, the women's 200 medley relay placed sixth overall with a time of 1:55.63 while the 800 free relay clocked an 8:08.67 to finish seventh.
The men's 200 medley relay posted a time of 1:42.59 to place eighth while the 800 free relay earned a time of 7:20.77 to finish seventh.
After two days of competition, the women's team stands in seventh place with 194 points. Marist holds a slim lead over host Loyola. The Red Foxes have a score of 505 while the Greyhounds have a score of 501.
On the men's side, the Stags are in seventh place with a score of 154. Marist leads with a score of 520.5 while Loyola is close behind with a score of 511.
