Kingman Sets Another Record as Fairfield Places Seventh at MAACs

BALTIMORE, Md. - Junior Drew Kingman (Wilton, Conn.) broke his third school record in as many days as the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming & diving teams wrapped up competition at the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.

Kingman clocked a time 2:06.72 in the 200-yard breaststroke to break his own school record of 2:09.62. The race was tight with just over a second separating Kingman from the first place winner. Loyola's Matt Fralinger won in 2:05.04 while Marist's Greg Jablonski was the runner-up in 2:05.96. Loyola's Colin Chenet was third (2:06.59) while Rider's Mike Tubb was fourth (2:06.68). Fairfield freshman Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) finished 13th in the event with a time of 2:18.72.

In the other men's action, sophomore Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) finished sixth in the 1-meter dive with a mark of 253.90, good for ECAC qualification. Freshman Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) was 12th with a score of 171.25.

Freshman Jonathan O'Connor (Norwalk, Conn.) placed eighth in the 200 fly with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:00.72.

Sophomore Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) finished 11th in the 200 back with a personal best of 2:02.26.

Senior Rob Devine (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a time of 18:03.43 to finish 20th overall in the 1650 freestyle.

In the women's 3-meter dive, senior Jennifer Silvia (Osterville, Mass.) placed fourth with a score of 332.80 while classmate Katie Yee (Bethesda, Md.) was sixth with a score of 331.95.

Junior Megan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) placed 11th in the 200 back with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:12.80. Senior Sarah Dent (Muttontown, N.Y.) was 14th in the event with a time of 2:16.22.

Rookie Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) finished 13th in the 100 free with an ECAC qualifying time of 55.47 seconds.

Senior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) placed 14th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.16.

In the 200 fly, senior Rachel Waldstein (Needham, Mass.) was 13th overall with a time of 2:18.09 while freshman Sasha Campbell (Old Greenwich, Conn.) was 16th with a personal best of 2:21.23.

The women's 400 medley relay clocked a time of 3:43.23 to finish seventh. The men's 400 medley relay posted a time of 3:19.67 to finish eighth.

Both the men's and women's teams placed seventh overall after three days of competition at the MAAC Championships. Marist College won both the men's and women's title while Rider University was the runner-up on both sides.
