
Swimming Takes Third at William McCarthy Invitational
Oct 19, 2008NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming teams finished third at the William McCarthy Invitational held at the New York Athletic Club on Oct. 19.
Three freshmen captured individual events for the Stags. Freshman Kekoa Taparra (Mililani, Hawaii) captured the men's 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 28.74 seconds. Freshman Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii) won the women's 50-yard fly with a time of 27.65 while Lauren Kennedy (Belmont, Mass.) posted a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:11.83.
On the women's side in the 50 free, Allie Russoniello (Middletown, N.J.) clocked a time of 26.88 seconds. In the 200 IM, senior Meghan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) swam a time of 2:28.03. In the 50 back, sophomore Sasha Campbell (Old Greenwich, Conn.) had a time of 32.85 seconds. In the 50 breaststroke, freshman Emily Kelly (Haddon Heights, N.J.) notched a time of 34 seconds.
In the 100 free, freshman Teresa Garrity (Middlebury, Conn.) notched a time of 57.47 seconds. In the 100 back, freshman Norah Gentile (Manchester, Conn.) had a time of 1:06.14. Classmate Aly Criscuolo (Pittsford, N.Y.) posted a time of 1:05.14 in the 100 fly while sophomore Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) notched a time of 5:31.62 in the 100 breaststroke.
On the men's side, senior Garrett Marqua (Fairfield, Conn.) had a time of 25.27 seconds in the 50 free while sophomore Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a time of 2:16.23 in the 200 IM. In the 50 back, Stefan Toi (Newton, Conn.) registered a time of 28.77 seconds. Freshman Anthony Caserta (Youngstown, N.Y.) swam a 58.03 in the 100 free while Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.) swam a 26.51 in the 50 fly.
In the 100 back, Kenny Muti (Walpole, Mass.) notched a time of 1:04.85. In the 100 fly, sophomore Jonathan O'Connor (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a mark of 1:00.16. In the 100 breaststroke Georgios Daniolos (Shelton, Conn.) had a time of 1:11.13. Freshman Tommy Peters (Basking Ridge, N.J.) swam a personal best in the 500 free in a time of 5:13.81.
The women's 400 medley relay of Gentile Marina Meliones (Wayland, Mass.), Caroline Menapace (Ambler, Pa.), and Alyssa Conroy (Toms River, N.J.) had a time of 4:32.65. The 200 medley relay of Kaitlyn Buckheit (Exton, Pa.), Colleen Wilson (Niantic, Conn.), Carolyn Sheppard (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), and Sam Ceglia (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had a time of 2:06.15.
The women's 200 freestyle relay of Brenna Dean (Edison, N.J.), Marissa Toselli (Barrington, R.I.), Marisa Milkovich (Vestal, N.Y.), and Sam Distler (Glens Falls, N.Y.) recorded a time of 1:48.79. The 400 freestyle relay of Megan Reilly (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.), Barbara Mangino (Jamaica Estates, N.Y.), Christina Brown (Shavertown, Pa.) and Vicki Herbert (Plainsboro, N.J.) posted a time of 4:08.64.
The men's 400 freestyle relay of Toi, Anthony Sbona (Higganum, Conn.), Caserta, and Brendan Sarpu (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded a time of 3:43.14. The 200 freestyle relay of Muti, Mick Cumiskey (Montville, N.J.), and Kevin Richard (Shelton, Conn.) had a time of 1:41.70.
The men's 400 medley relay of Taparra, Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.), Robinson, and Greg Bellizzi (Edison, N.J.) recorded a time of 3:50.59. The 200 medley relay of Taparra, Toi, Robinson, and Bellizzi notched a time of 1:48.74.
The women's team returns to action on Oct. 25 as Siena comes to the RecPlex. The entire team is back together on Nov. 1 as Fairfield hosts Providence.
