FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University freshman Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Punahou School) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Swimmer of the Week after an outstanding debut for the Stags. In three meets, Yoshida has captured four individual events and two relay events, while setting a program record.

Yoshida began her rookie campaign by winning two individual events and a relay at Holy Cross on Oct. 11. She won the 200-meter free in a time of 1:58.62 and the 100m free in a time of 55.15 seconds. She was also a member of the victorious 200m freestyle relay which finished in a time of 1:41.59. In addition, she was the anchor on the second-place 400m medley relay that had a time of 4:13.41.

This past weekend, Yoshida turned in another solid effort at two competitions. In Fairfield's win over St. Peter's on Oct. 17, she broke the women's 50m freestyle record with a winning time of 27:06. The previous standard of 27.35 was set by former Stag Jen Masi in 2006.

In addition to the 50 free, Yoshida was the lead leg of the winning 200m medley relay that had a time of 2:07.20, which was less than a second off the record. She was also the anchor on the 200m freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:54.36 which was three-tenths of a second off the school record.

At the William McCarthy Invitational on Oct. 19, she captured the 50-yard fly with a time of 27.65 seconds.

The Fairfield women's team returns to action on Oct. 25 as Siena comes to the RecPlex. The entire team is back together on Nov. 1 as Fairfield hosts Providence.
