Swimming & Diving Falls to Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Marist College this afternoon on the road. The men's team dropped a 153-130 decision while the women's team fell by a margin of 177-119.

On the men's side, freshman Kekoa Taparra (Mililani, Hawaii) was a triple-winner for the Stags. He captured the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.46 seconds, less than three-tenths of second off the program record. He also notched a win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.37 and in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:12.72.

Freshman Brian Friedlander (River Edge, N.J.) was the runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke with a personal best of 1:03.38 and in the 200 yard breaststroke with a personal best of 2:16.10.

Sophomore Jonathan O'Connor (Norwalk, Conn.) was the runner-up in the 200 yard fly with a time of 2:06.48. He also was fourth in the 200 yard back with a personal best of 2:15.06.

Freshman Andrew Robinson (Manalapan, N.J.) set a personal best in the 100 yard fly with a time of 55.91 seconds.

Junior Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) finished third on both boards. On the 3-meter, he had a score of 230.02 while posting a mark of 256.43 on the 1-meter. Sophomore Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) was fifth on both boards. He recorded a mark of 159.29 on the 3-meter and a score of 190.13 on the 1-meter.

On the women's side, freshmen Michelle Yoshida (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Lauren Kennedy (Belmont, Mass.) were both triple-winners, capturing two individual events and a relay. Yoshida captured the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25.17 seconds and the 100 yard freestyle with a personal best of 54.33 seconds, less than a second off the program record. Kennedy, meanwhile, won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.21 and the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.20.

Yoshida and Kennedy, along with senior Meghan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman Teresa Garrity (Middlebury, Conn.), comprised the 200 yard medley relay that posted a winning time of 1:55.26.

Individually, Carlson captured the 100 yard back with a time of 1:03.92. She was also third in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:18.55

Freshman Aly Criscuolo (Pittsford, N.Y.) took third in the 200 yard fly with a personal best of 2:18.03 and was third in the 100 yard fly with a time of 1:03.73, just off a personal best.

Sophomore Allie Russoniello (Middletown, N.J.) placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a personal best of 1:13.91.

Junior Hillary Urbancic (Concord, Mass.) was fourth on both boards. In the 1-meter, she recorded a score of 164.18. In the 3-meter, she tallied a score of 155.92.

With the losses, the men's team falls to 2-2 on the season while the women's team falls to 3-2.

Fairfield is back in action on Nov. 22 when it hosts Manhattan and Bryant at 2 p.m. in the RecPlex.
