Swimming & Diving Heads to MAAC Championships February 12-14

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ready to make a splash at the 2009 MAAC Championships, February 12-14 at Loyola's Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore, Md.

Several Stags have some of the top times in the league thus far. On the women's side, freshman Michelle Yoshida holds the fastest time in the 50 free (24.25) and the third-fastest 100 free (53.36). She's also in the top-eight in the 200 free (1:56.12), the 100 back (1:00.15) and the 200 back (2:10.00). 

Sophomore Katie Merz holds the sixth-best 500 free time (5:13.64) while freshman Lauren Kennedy is in the top-seven in the 100 breast (1:09.87) and the 200 breast (2:29.52). Senior Meghan Carlson is in the top-15 in both the 100 back (1:01.95) and the 200 back (2:13.50). Junior Hillary Urbancic is in the top-15 on both boards. Her top 1-meter score is 186.75 while her top 3-meter mark is 186.68.

The women's relays have been impressive. Fairfield holds the top 200 medley relay time of 1:42.14 and has the third-fastest 200 free (1:41.59) and 400 free (3:36.92) relay times.

On the men's side, freshman Kekoa Taparra has the third-fastest 100 breaststroke (58.70), 200 breaststroke (2:10.08), and 400 IM (4:12.72) times in the MAAC this season. He is also in the top-10 in the 200 IM (1:58.37), the 200 back (1:58.44), and 1000 free (10:02.20).

Sophomore Jonathan O'Connor is in the top-11 in the 400 IM (4:18.39) and the 1000 free (10:13.78). Freshman Brian Friedlander has the fifth-best time in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.50) and is the top-12 in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.57) and 200 IM (2:00.16).

On the boards, junior Taylor Stecko's mark of the 256.43 on the 1-meter is the sixth-highest while his 261.35 on the 3-meter is the seventh-highest. Sophomore Brett Carisio is ranked 11th on both boards with a 203.70 on the 1-meter and a 194.85 on the 3-meter.
