Thirteen Swimmers & Divers Named to MAAC All-Academic Team

Thirteen Stags were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team as announced by the conference prior to the start of the 2009 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships in Baltimore, Md.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. 

The Fairfield men's team had four Stags named All-Academic. Juniors Alex Connaughton and Boris Romanovsky were elected to the team for the second straight year while sophomores Jonathan O'Connor and Brett Carisio earned their first selections.

Nine members of the women's team earned All-Academic honors. Senior tri-captain Kaitlyn Buckheit was named to the team for the third consecutive year while classmate Megan Carlson received her first nod. Junior Marina Meliones received her second straight selection. Sophomores Christina Brown, Sasha Campbell, Katie Merz, Allie Russoniello, Wanda Szarek, and Colleen Wilson were named to the All-Academic Team for the first time.

The women's swimming and diving team continued is stellar performance in the classroom as they posted the highest collective grade point average out of Fairfield's 20 varsity programs for the third-straight semester. They posted a 3.39 GPA for the Fall 2008 semester. This past fall, 20 of the 25 team members earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher, including 11 members on the University's Dean's List. During the 2007-08 academic year the women's swimming team posted the highest team GPA with a 3.43.
