FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Pool. The women were edged out, 137-106, while the men dropped a 144-96 decision to fall to 6-5 and 2-7 on the season, respectively.

The women snagged three first-place finishes and broke one school record on the day. Sophomore Brittany Hunter (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) won two events for the Stags, taking the 200-meter IM in a time of 2:30.36 and the 200 fly in a time of 2:31.33. Classmate Jennifer Masi (North Haven, Conn.) bested the field in the 50 free with a time of 27.97, missing out on her own record by less than half-a-second. Freshman Liz Lawlor (North Whales, Pa.) broke a nine-year old school-record while taking second-place in the 200 breast in a time of 2:50.10.

The men had three top-finishes on the day; led by freshman Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) who won two events. McGonigle swam the 800 free in a time of 9:15.03 to take first-place and won the 400 free in a time of 4:28.90 while junior Raul Delgadillo (West Allis, Wisc.) won the 200 breast in a time of 2:37.33.

Fairfield faired will in the diving events as senior Chrissie Mayr (Rockville Center, N.Y.) and junior Rob Penwell (Chatham, N.J.) took second-place on both the one- and three-meter boards. Likewise, freshman Katherine Yee (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Diego Ibarra (Fairview, N.J.) each took third-place on both boards.

The Stags return to action next weekend as the women compete Fri., Feb. 4 at Manhattan at 6:30 p.m., while both teams compete on Sat., Feb. 5 at Holy Cross at 1 p.m.
