FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Behind two swimmers posting school-records, the Fairfield University women's swimming and diving team, defeated Manhattan College 118-81 on Friday evening at the Rec Plex Pool. With the win, the Stags improve to 7-7 overall and 5-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Junior Jennifer Masi posted a 27.35 to set a new school-record in the 50-meter freestyle. Masi also touched the wall first in the 100-meter freestyle with a 1:00.82.
Sophomore Elizabeth Lawlor won the 200-meter breaststroke with a new school-record of 2:49.96.
Senior Kate Roche, who was swimming for the last time at home, won the 800-meter freestyle with a 9:56.13. Fellow senior Bridget McKeon finished second with a 10:11.05.
Junior Brittany Hunter finished first in the 200-meter freestyle with a 2:12.85, just missing a school-record. Hunter also came close to breaking another school-record by posting a 4:34.72 in the 400-meter freestyle.
Sophomore Rachel Waldstein took the 200-meter butterfly, touching the wall in 2:36.39.
Sophomore Katharine Yee swept both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, while sophomore Jennifer Silvia finished second. Yee took the one-meter with a 226.73, while Silvia registered a 208.15. In the three-meter, Yee recorded a 205.20, and Silvia posted a 174.98.
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will prepare for the MAAC Championships February 16-18 at Loyola (Md.).
