Providence, R.I. - The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams opened the 2005-06 campaign with hard fought losses at Providence College. The men (0-1) fell 123-113, while the women (0-1) dropped a 138-105 decision. The meet was swum in short course meters.

The men started the meet off on a strong note, winning the 400 medley relay. Matt Rimmer, Sean Killelea, Raul Delgadillo and Rob Willhoit touched first in the opening event in a time of 4:18.21.

Both the Fairfield men and women won their respective 50 freestyle events. Jennifer Masi touched first in 28.01, followed by teammate Kaitlyn Buckheit in a time fo 29.99. Matt McAndrew won the men's event in a time of 26.36.

The Stag divers provided highlights on both boards, winning each of the four events. Katharine Yee (152.70, 203.78) picked up first place finishes on both boards, while Jennifer Silva (126.52, 137.10) was second in both events. Jacqueline DeJohn was third on the one meter board with 125.85 points. Jon Barret totalled 129.90 points to earn victory in the first men's diving event, followed by Russell Laub (114.23) and Christian Lopez (81.22) to complete the sweep. Rob Penwell keyed the second sweep with 226.13 points. Diego Ibarra was second with 207 points and Barret placed third with 173.25.

Masi picked up her second individual win in the 100 free, placing first in a time of 1:02.39.

Matt Rimmer won the 100 back for the Stags, finishing in a time of 1:04.41. Teammate Brian Lloyd was second in the event with a time of 1:05.69.

Both teams will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 23, when they host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe, Saint Peter's. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
