FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield swim team suffered a pair of tough losses this afternoon at the RecPlex as the men's team fell to Yale, 151-37 while the women's team was defeated 137-47 by the visiting Bulldogs. The women's team falls to 1-3 on the season while the men fall are still seeking their first victory of the year.
On the women's side, senior Brittany Hunter (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) placed third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:13.59 slightly more than a tenth of second off of the Fairfield record. Junior Courtney Nicholas (Farmingville, N.Y.) was fourth with a time of 2:25.25.
Senior Jennifer Masi (North Haven, Conn.) lost her first 50m freestyle race of the year as Jane Kim posted a time of 27.18 to edge Masi's mark of 27.71. Junior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) placed fifth with a time of 29.75.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Buckheit (Exton, Pa.) placed third in the 100m freestyle with a personal best of 1:06.09. Freshman Marina Meliones (Wayland, Mass.) placed second in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 3:04.43.
Freshman Jennifer Curtis (Randolph, Mass.) set two personal bests on the day. In the 800m freestyle she posted a time of 10:43.20. She then set a personal best in the 400m freestyle with a time of 5:11.22.
Junior Erin Carrather (Westwood, N.J.) registered a personal best in the 200m back with a time of 2:33.33 to finish third. Nicholas also set a personal best with a time of 2:39.58 to place fourth.
The 200m freestyle relay of Masi, Hunter, Lawlor and Buckheit nearly set a school record with a time of 1:54.29. The Fairfield record in the event is 1:54.28, set in 2004. In the 200m medley relay, the quartet posted a time of 2:08.25.
On the men's side, several Stags posted third-place finishes. Junior Rob Devine (Norwalk, Conn.) placed third in the 800m freestyle with a time of 9:42.81. Freshman Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) finished third in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:31.06.
Sophomore Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) took third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:07.7 and placed fourth in the 100m freestyle with a time of 57.61.
The 200m freestyle relay of Matt Rimmer (Branford, Conn.), Tom Kozlowski (Farmingville, N.Y.), Brendan Sinatro (West Pittston, Pa.) and McGonigle, posted a time of 1:44.83 to earn first-place points.
Fairfield returns to action on November 12 when it travels to Marist College.
