NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) meet against Iona College at the Mulcahy Center Pool, this evening. The Fairfield women defeated Iona, 127-110, while the Fairfield men fell to the Gaels, 147-90.
The Fairfield women improve to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC, while the men's squad falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the MAAC.
Junior Brittany Hunter picked up a pair of wins for the Stags, as she won the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:47, she then came back to take the 200-yard IM, clocking a 2:15.76.
In addition, sophomore Katharine Yee was a double winner, as she swept the diving events, winning the one-meter diving with a 176.52. In the three-meter, she posted a 204.08.
The 400-yardmedlay relay team of sophomore Sarah Dent, sophomore Elizabeth Lawlor, sophomore Rachel Waldstein, and junior Jennifer Masi finished first with a 4:11.76.
Masi also picked up second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.12), and 100-yard freestyle (54.54). Dent finished second as well in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:05.43, and senior Kate Roche finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:37.90.
Senior Raul Delgadilio led the Fairfield men with a win in the 200-yard butterfly posting a 2:07.10. He also finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:19.97.
The Stags swept both diving events as Rob Penwell won the one-meter with a 230.93. Jon Barrett was second with a 172.72, and Russell Laub was third with a 137.25.
In the three-meter, Penwell completed the double-double with a 187.60, while Deigo Ibarra was second with a 172.20. Barrett was third with a 159.23.
The women's team is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3 when it heads to Loudonville, N.Y. for a tri-meet with Siena and Sacred Heart.
