Results

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Despite three victories from senior Brittany Hunter and sweeps of the diving events, the men's and women's swimming and diving team fell by Iona on Nov. 28 at the RecPlex. The women's team was edged, 123-114, while the men's team fell 143-94. With the loss, the women fall to 2-5 and 2-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while the men drop to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Hunter was a triple-winner for the Stags. She began the day by capturing the 1500m freestyle with a time of 18:10.49. She followed that with a victory in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:29.38. She closed out the day with a win in the 400m freestyle by touching in a time of 4:41.74.

Junior Katharine Yee was also a double-winner, sweeping both boards. She tallied a score of 222.23 to take the 1-meter event while tallying 195.38 points in the 3-meter.

Senior Jennifer Masi continued her success in the 50m freestyle winning the event in a time of 27.61 seconds. Iona's Amanda Cody was the runner-up with a time of 27.75 seconds while junior Liz Lawlor was third with a time of 29.51 seconds. Several events later, Masi was edged out by Cody in the 100m freestyle. Cody recorded a winning time of 1:01.07 while Masi was the runner-up with a time of 1:01.25.

Junior Sarah Dent won her first event of the season by taking the 100m backstroke in a winning time of 1:12.65. Dent was a split second ahead of Iona's Angela Kohlhoff, who posted a time of 1:12.81. Sophomore Kaitlyn Buckheit was third with a time of 1:13.59.

Iona's Amanda McCarthy picked up a crucial victory in the 100m breaststroke edging out Lawlor by 0.22 seconds. McCarthy clocked a time of 1:17.57 while Lawlor touched in a time of 1:17.79. Lawlor's mark was 0.48 seconds off of her recording-setting mark.

Also having a strong night was junior Erin Carrather, who was the runner-up in the 200m IM with a personal best of 2:36.85, and junior Rachel Waldstein, who was the runner-up in the 100m butterfly with a personal best of 1:10.75.

The 200 medley relay of Dent, Lawlor, Waldstein and Masi captured the event with a time of 2:08.22, edging out Iona by .56 seconds.

Freshman Taylor Stecko was a double-winner for the Stags capturing both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with personal bests. Stecko recorded a mark of 223.73 to take the 3-meter and posted a score of 232.95 in the 1-meter to win that event.

Junior Sean McGonigle posted a victory in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:03.83 touching just ahead of the Gaels' David Gartman, who clocked a time of 2:03.87.

Junior Matt Rimmer also posted an individual victory, capturing the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:04.40.

Junior Brian Lloyd placed second in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:26.30. He also placed third in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:07.12. Junior Rob Devine was the runner up in the 1500m freestyle with a personal best of 18:19.08.

The Stags will head to Rhode Island for the Harold Anderson Invitational Dec. 1-2. Fairfield returns home on Dec. 9 to host Siena and Sacred Heart.
