BALTIMORE, Md. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will look to make a splash at the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, which begin on February 8 and run through February 10 at Loyola College.
Senior Jennifer Masi will take to the pool for the last time to defend her 50 freestyle title. Last season, Masi captured the event in a time of 24.24 seconds, setting a school and MAAC record. The co-captain, who holds the MAAC's top time in the 50 freestyle this season, will also compete for a title in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.
Also competing in her last MAAC Championship is senior Brittany Hunter. The co-captain is one of the most decorated Fairfield swimmers in program history, as a part of 19 school records, but a conference title has been just out of reach in each of the last three seasons. She will battle for the crown in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events.
Junior Liz Lawlor will again compete for a top spot in the breaststroke events. Lawlor holds top-four times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke this season. Last year at MAACs, she placed third in the 200 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
On the men's side, sophomore transfer Drew Kingman will compete in his first MAAC Championship. Since becoming eligible in January, Kingman has captured seven of the eight individual events that he has entered and has been a part a six school records (four individual, two relay). He holds the fifth-fastest time in the MAAC in the 400 individual medley, and is the top-10 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
Sophomore Matt Rimmer, along with juniors Rob Devine, Brian Lloyd, and Sean McGonigle, and senior Tom Kozlowski, are expected to score for the Stags in their respective events.
In the diving events, junior Katharine Yee and freshman Taylor Stecko are the top divers for the women's and men's teams. Both Yee and Stecko have had strong seasons, qualifying for the ECAC Championships earlier this season. Senior Russ Laub will compete in his last MAAC event as he looks to score points for the fourth-straight year while junior Jennifer Silvia will also look to score for the Stags.
The 2007 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships begin at 10 a.m. on February 8 at Loyola College. For complete event information and results, visit MAAC Championship Central.
