EDISON, N.J. - Eight members of the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams garnered spots on the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic teams. In all a total of 59 women and 30 men earned MAAC All-Academic selections.

Senior Sean Killelea earned his third appearance on the MAAC All-Academic Team, leading the Fairfield men's team. Junior Tom Scappaticci earned his second appearance on the team, after being selected last season. Junior Charles Laub and sophomore Sean McGonigle each earned their first appearances on the team.

Junior Brittany Hunter captured her second appearance on the team, as the women's team also had four representatives. Senior Kate Roche, sophomore Jennifer Silvia, and sophomore Colleen Stranzl are each making their first appearance on the team.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Loyola led the women with 12 members, Iona and Manhattan each had nine athletes named, while Marist added six. Canisius, Fairfield, Niagara, Rider, and Saint Peter's added four. Siena added three to round out the team. On the men's side, Loyola led with six, followed by Rider with five, Fairfield with four, Saint Peter's with three, Canisius and Niagara with two, and Iona with one.

The Fairfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams, will take part in the 2006 MAAC Championships this weekend at Loyola College.
