SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Fairfield University men's and women's diving teams finished a combined second place at the Springfield College Diving Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The host Pride captured first place in the seven-team field with 139 points. The Stags were second with 69 points, followed by New York University (57), New Hampshire (56), Amherst (21), WPI (6), and Clark (0).
The Fairfield men were led by senior Rob Penwell who finished third on the men's one-meter with a score of 370.25. Junior Diego Ibarra was second on the team and sixth overall with a 355.45, and followed by senior Jon Barrett who was third on the team and eighth overall with a 299.80. Junior Charles Laub finished 12th overall with a 121.15, and freshman Cristian Lopez finished 13th with an 88.85.
On the men's three-meter, Ibarra led Fairfield with a seventh place finish, recording a scored of 356.55, Penwell was eighth overall with a 352.95, Laub was ninth with a 270.95, and Barrett was 10th with a 270.70.
The Fairfield women were led by sophomore Katharine Yee who finished fourth on the one-meter and sixth in the three-meter, posting a 347.60 in the three-meter. Classmate Jennifer Silvia finished 12th overall on the one-meter. Silvia finished 11th on the three-meter posting a 314.35.
Both the Fairfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the pool on Monday, Jan. 16 with a dual meet against the University of Maine.
