Stags Open Season at Fordham Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams opened up their 2007 campaign at the Fordham Invitational during a hot morning at Van Cortlandt Park.

The men placed 20th overall while the women finished 22nd in a highly competitive field. Princeton captured the event on the women's side while Penn took the men's race.

On the men's side, freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) was the top-finisher for Fairfield with a time of 31:16. Sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) was next with a time of 31:58. Senior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) ran a time of 32:01 while freshman Tom Fitzpatrick (Westfield, N.J.) posted a time of 32:45. Senior A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) crossed the line in 33:27 while freshman Zachary Tesoriero (New York, N.Y.) notched a time of 34:31. Freshman Khalid Zeidan rounded out the group with a mark of 35:44.

Junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J) was the first to cross the line for Fairfield with a mark of 22:46. Sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a time of 23:15 while freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) recorded a time of 23:26. Newcomer Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) posted a time of 24:12 while sophomore Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) had a time of 24:15. Sophomore Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) notched a time of 24:42 while Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) clocked a 25:18.

Fairfield will head to New Britain, Conn. on September 15 for the Ted Owen Invitational held at Central Connecticut State University.
