Cross Country Competes at Ted Owen Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams had a solid afternoon at the Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational held at Central Connecticut State.

In the men's race, freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) was the top-finisher for Fairfield with a time of 27:46 to place 31st overall.

Sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) ran a time of 29:53 to cross the line second for the Stags improving upon last year's time by a minute. Senior A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) posted a time of 30:20 while senior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) was close behind with a time of 30:27. Freshman Zachary Tesoriero (New York, N.Y.) notched a time of 30:37 while classmate Khalid Zeidan rounded out the group with a mark of 32:11.

On the women's side, junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J) crossed the line first for Fairfield, for the second-straight meet, with a mark of 20:37. Sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) shaved nearly 40 seconds off last season's time to finish in 21:08. Freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) clocked a time of 21:39 while followed closely behind by Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) who posted a time of 21:45. Her time was nearly 50 seconds faster than last year.

Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) posted a time of 22:16 while sophomore Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) had a time of 22:32 to match last season's performance. Sophomore Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) rounded out the field with a mark of 22:38.

The men placed ninth overall in the 8K race while the women's team placed 11th in the 5K run.

Fairfield returns to action on September 29 when it hosts the Fr. Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational.
