
Stags Have Solid Outing at Leeber Invitational

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University cross country team had a solid day at the Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational this afternoon on the North Benson Road campus. The men's team placed fifth while the women's team took sixth.
For the second year in a row, Sacred Heart captured both the men's and women's team titles. Fordham's Matt Lowenthal was the men's champion with a time of 27:17.70 while Dana Troy of Sacred Heart was the women's champion in a time of 19:28.17.
Freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) crossed the line first for the Stags with a mark of 29:23.50 to place 25th overall. Thomas Fitzpatrick (Westfield, N.J.) was next with a time of 30:19.10 followed by senior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) with a time of 30:31.40.
Sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) recorded a time of 31:07.70 while senior A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) clocked a time of 31:23.20. Freshman Khalid Zeidan (Fairfield, Conn.) notched a time of 33:00.45 while newcomer Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) notched a time of 33:03.10.
Freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) was the top-finisher for Fairfield with a time of 22:21.35 to set her 36th overall. Junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J) clocked a time of 22:34.68 while sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) crossed the line in 23:18.71.
Freshman Laura Daniels (Ramsey, N.J.) posted a mark of 23:27.42 in her first race with the Stags while sophomore Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) registered a time of 23:32.52. Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) was next with a time of 23:34.42 followed by Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) in 23:45.91 and sophomore Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) in 23:53.08.
Fairfield will return to action on Oct. 6 at the New England Championships which will take place at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
