
Stags Compete at New England Championships

BOSTON - It was a sweltering hot afternoon at the New England Championships at for the Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams. Temperatures were in excess of 90 degrees at Franklin Park.
Sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) was the top-finisher for the Stags with a time of 22:00. Junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J) was close behind with a time of 22:04 while freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) posted a mark of 22:19.
Freshman Laura Daniels (Ramsey, N.J.) notched a time of 22:42 while junior Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) registered a 22:54. Sophomore Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) recorded a time of 23:13 while sophomore Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) rounded out the group with a mark of 23:47.
In the women's sub-varsity race, sophomore Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) ran a time of 23:38.
Freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) was the top-finished for Fairfield on the men's side with a time of 28:24. Sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) was next to cross the line with a time of 30:04 while senior A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) was close behind with a mark of 30:09. On his heels was freshman Thomas Fitzpatrick (Westfield, N.J.) who finished in 30:10.
Senior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) ran a 30:22 while Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) clocked a 31:46. Freshman Khalid Zeidan (Fairfield, Conn.) rounded out the group in 32:52.
The men's team placed 40th overall while the women placed 42nd.
Fairfield will return to action on Oct. 20 when the Stags head to New Britain, Conn. for the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet.
