Cross Country Competes at CCSU Mini Meet

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.  - In their final race before the conference championships, the Fairfield men's and women's cross country teams had a solid outing at the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet this afternoon in Stanley Park.

The women's team placed ninth overall in the two-mile race while the men's team took eighth place in the 5K event.

Freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) was the top-finisher for the Stags once again as he clocked a time of 16:53. Senior A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) was next with a time of 17:39 and was followed closely behind by sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) with a time of 17:42. Senior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted a time of 17:49 while Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) ran an 18:02. Freshman Thomas Fitzpatrick (Westfield, N.J.) recorded a mark of 18:13 while Zachary Tesoriero (New York, N.Y./Xavier) ran a time of 18:37. Freshman Khalid Zeidan (Fairfield, Conn.) rounded out the group with a time of 18:48.

On the women's side, freshman Laura Daniels (Ramsey, N.J.) finished first for the Stags with a time of 13:11. Junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J) was right on her heels with a time of 13:13. Sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a time of 13:23 while freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) ran a 13:31. Sophomore Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) posted a time of 13:38 while classmate Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) registered a time of 13:54. Junior Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) and sophomore Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) rounded out the runners as Booton finished in 14:01 followed by Doran in 14:05.

Fairfield will head to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. on Oct. 26 for the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.
