
Cross Country Competes at NCAA New England Regional

BOSTON, Mass. - The Fairfield cross country team competed at the 2007 NCAA New England Regional on Saturday morning at Franklin Park. Sophomore Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) was the top-finisher for the men while junior Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J.) was the top-finisher for the women.
Manke ran a time of 35:36.20 to lead the pack of Stag runners in the 10 K event. Freshman Ben Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) posted a time of 35:21.85 and crossed the line second for Fairfield. Freshman Thomas Fitzpatrick (Westfield, N.J.) was next with a time of 36:39.00. He was followed by seniors A.J. Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) in 36:55.80 and Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) in 37:02.65 and freshman Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) with a time of 38:12.20.
Ard notched a time of 25:35.85 to cross the line first for Fairfield in the 6K race. Freshman Annie Rooney (Avon, N.J.) was next with a time of 26:21.65 while sophomore Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) followed with a mark of 26:38.60. Freshman Laura Daniels (Ramsey, N.J.) ran a time of 27:29.20 while sophomore Eileen Smith (Little Neck, N.Y.) had a time of 27:37.60. Rounding out the group were sophomores Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) in 27:47.80 and Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) in 31:08.46
The men finished 34th overall while the women finished 36th.
Fairfield will wrap up its 2007 campaign on November 17 when it competes at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
