Cross Country Announces Class of 2012

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University head cross country coach John Sagnelli announced his first recruiting class this afternoon. Fourteen newcomers will join the Stags in the fall. 

"I am pleased to have all of these student-athletes join our program in the fall," Sagnelli said. "They all bring a wealth of talent and experience with them. Each will have a positive impact on the program." 

There will be five new faces on the men's team which will include: Vin Ferrer (Belford, N.J.), Stephen Flanagan (Ramsey, N.J.), Daniel Dunn (Manchester, N.H.), Matt Brunelle (Oakham, Mass.), Vincent Camporeale (Toms River, N.J.), Adrian Ambrose (Trumbull, Conn.) and Mark Volinski (Avon, Conn.)

On the women's side, Sagnelli welcomes Kristen Golen (Malvern, Pa.), Kelly Kramer (Massapequa, N.Y.), Nikki Livesey (Livingston, N.J.), Caroline Riley (Mystic, Conn.), Lauren Tehan (Portland, Ore.), Emily Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Lauren Smith (Milton, Mass.).

Ferrer has had a stellar career at Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. He is a two-time all-conference and all-state honoree in both cross country and track. Ferrer, whose personal best in the 5K is 16:05.14, also received second team All-Shore from The Asbury Park Press in 2007 and second team All-Monmouth honors from The Star-Ledger in 2006. He also has a 4K time of 13:07.44 and a 3200m time of 9:47.90.

Flanagan is a two-time all-county selection in cross country and a four-time all-league pick in indoor and outdoor track. As a team captain in 2007, he helped Don Bosco Prep to a national ranking of tenth. Flanagan runs a 16:40 5K and a 4:35.20 mile. 

Brunelle is a three-time state qualifier in both cross country and track at Quabbin Regional High School in Massachusetts. A team captain for the last two seasons, Brunelle has accrued numerous all-league honors in both cross country and track. He runs a 16:34 5K, a 15:53 3-mile time and a 4:35 mile. 

Camporeale, who runs a 17-minute 5K, served as team captain of the Monsignor Donovan High School squad as a senior. His personal best of 17:04 in the 5K is the tenth fastest time in school history. 

Dunn is a three-time state qualifier in both cross country and track at Trinity High School in New Hampshire. He also runs a 5K time of 16:50. 

Ambrose was a state qualifier in both cross country and track at Trumbull High School while earning all-conference accolades in both sports. Additionally, the team captain earned all-state track honors. He recorded a person best of 17 minutes in cross country and ran a 2-minute 800m.

Volinski was also a state qualifier in cross country and track at Avon High School. He also earned all-conference honors in both sports and was named the team captain. He runs a 10-minute 3200m in outdoor track and has a personal best of 17:04 in cross country.

On the women's side, Golen is a three-time state qualifier in both track and cross country at Great Valley High School. The two-time team captain received all-conference honors in both track and cross country three times. She posts a personal best 5K time of 18:59, a 5:25.10 in the mile, and a 10:46 3000m time. 

Kramer, captain of the cross country and track teams, is a two-time all-conference selection in cross country while receiving all-conference honors in both indoor and outdoor track at Massapequa High School. She runs a 5:40.10 mile and a 2:25.01 800m. Kramer, who also runs a 20-minute 5K, excels in the classroom as well as she is an AP Scholar with Honor and a member of the National Honor Society. 

Livesey is a four-time all-conference and all-county cross country runner at Livingston High School. As a senior, she garnered all-state accolades after helping her team win its second-straight Essex County Championship. Livesey, who runs a 19:20 5K and a 5:32.31 mile, is also a combined six-time all-conference and five-time all-county selection in indoor and outdoor track. 

Riley is a four-time all-state, all-area, and all-conference selection in cross country at St. Bernard High School. A captain of the cross country and track teams, Riley posts a 5K time of 19:40, a 4K time of 15:28, a mile time of 5:30.33, and a 3200m time of 11:45.24. 

Tehan is a three year letter-winner in cross country at Jesuit High School, a perennial nationally ranked program.  She helped her team to a state championship in 2006 and earned All-Metro honors in the process. In addition, she participated in the 2007 Nike Team Nationals in 2007. She also earned four varsity letters in track. She runs a 5K of 19:07, and has personal bests of 4:56 in the 1500m, 10:48 in the 3000m, and 2:28 in the 800m. 

Davis is a two-time all-conference runner at Wethersfield High School. A team captain as a senior, she runs a 19:07 4K and a 20:50 5K. Off the course, she is a member of the National Honor Society and an All-Academic selection.

Smith ran cross country and track at Fontbonne Academy. She has a 5K time of 21:00 and runs a 2:30 in the 800m.
