Cross Country Concludes Season At ECAC/IC4A Championships

The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams closed out their 2009 campaign at the 2009 IC4A/ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. The men's team was paced by junior Benjamin Heslin (Kensington, Conn.) who finished 43rd overall while the women's team was led by sophomore Kristen Golen (Malvern, Pa.) who recorded Fairfield's fastest 5K time at Van Cortlandt Park in program history.

Heslin traversed the men's 8K course in a time of 26:56.3, the seventh-fastest time by at Stag at Van Cortlandt Park in program history.

Golen, meanwhile, clocked a time of 19:32.6, which is the fastest-ever by a Stag at VCP, to finish 54th overall; Golen was 77th last season. The previous best was 19:34.4, which was run at the 2002 ECAC Championships by Emily Heslin, sister of Benjamin Heslin.

Six other Stags checked into Fairfield's chart top-20 performances at VCP. Sophomore Lauren Londregan (Mystic, Conn.) had a time of 19:41.4 while Lauren Smith (Milton, Mass.) finished in 19:59.5. Emily Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) had a time of 20:01.8 and was followed by Nikki Livesey (Livingston, N.J.) in 20:27.3, Kelly Kramer (Massapequa, N.Y.) in 20:29.5 and freshman Samantha Goodnow (Deerfield, Conn.) in 20:35.3.

Senior Caroline Conant (E. Longmeadow, Mass.), competing in her final race as a Stag, finished in 20:41.2. Sophomore Lauren Tehan (Portland, Ore.) clocked a time of 21:06.3 and was followed by freshman Elizabeth Butrick (Torrington, Conn.) in 22:54.6 and sophomore Skyler Lapuc (North Providence, R.I.) in 23:17.5.

On the men's side, Heslin was followed by sophomore Steve Flanagan (Ramsey, N.J) in 27:25.8, sophomore transfer Jon Juleus (Succasunna, N.J.) in 27:33.7, freshman Dylan Fisher (Peterborough, N.H.) in 27:46.8, and freshman Matt Boley (Kendall Park, N.J.) in 28:04.2. Freshman Greg Chase (Bristol, Conn.) had a time of 28:12.1 while classmate Kyle Short (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a time of 28:24.9.

Freshman Ernie Lustenring (Massapequa, N.Y.) posted a time of 28:30.5 and was followed by sophomore Vin Ferrer (Belford, N.J.) in 28:39.1, sophomore Mark Volinski (Avon, Conn.) in 28:53.6, sophomore Adrian Ambrose (Trumbull, Conn.) in 30:33.3, and junior Jeff Paul (Schenectady, N.Y.) in 31:32.3.

The men's team placed 14th in the University Race, up nine spots from last season while the women's team placed 15th, up two spots from last season.
