NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2004 season on Saturday afternoon, at the 16th annual Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State, at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. Fairfield Head Coach Jennifer Wyshner made her head coaching debut on Saturday afternoon, as both teams finished seventh in the team competition. Senior co-captain Bryan Mahoney (Milton, Mass./Milton) finished 13th overall in the men's race with a 28:09. Senior co-captain Stephanie Stote (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic) was the top runner for the women's race, finishing 33rd overall. Syracuse won the men's race followed by Albany, Holy Cross, New Haven, Central Connecticut, Northeastern, Fairfield, and Hartford. Connecticut won the women's race followed by Northeaster, Syracuse, Albany, Holy Cross, Central Connecticut, Fairfield, New Haven, and Hartford. Freshman Craig Sabatini finished second for the Fairfield men with a 30:30, followed by Justin Rindos with a 30:52, Devin Hagen with a 30:54, and AJ. Kastanotis with a 32:06. The women's race had technical difficulties with the timing system, and the only runner who received a time was the winner Kristin Meyer of Connecticut. Lauren Wilson finished second on the team, followed by Courtney Kincaid, Kara O'Connell, Megan Kruger, and Shannon Kenefick. Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 11, as both teams will take part in the Ram Invitational, hosted by Fordham University, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
