NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The men's and women's cross country team competed at the 2006 Ted Owens Invite hosted by Central Connecticut State University this afternoon. The men's team placed fourth overall while the women's team finished sixth.
Senior Dan Ryan (Reading, Mass.) was the top-finisher for the Stag for the second meet in a row. Ryan placed 16th overall with a time of 29:20, improving upon last season's time by nearly a minute. Classmate J.D. Worrall (Totowa, N.J.) was right on his heels clocking a 28:48 to place 17th overall. He ran just over 32 minutes last season. Junior Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the third Stags finisher with a time of 30:22 and placed 20th overall, shaving 35 seconds off last season's performance.
Senior John Fields (Taftville, Conn.) posted a time of 30:40, cutting about two minutes off last season's time, to place 23rd overall, while freshman Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) was close behind recording a time of 30:53 to place 24th overall.
Also finishing for the Stags were Ronald Feher (Berwyn, Pa.) with a time of 30:57, senior John LaCagnina (East Meadow, N.Y) with a time of 33:15 followed by freshman Chris Rhodes (York, Maine) in 33:23 and junior Andrew Lawrence (Warwick, N.Y.) in 33:49.
On the women's side, in her very first collegiate race, freshman Kaitlyn Hurley (Warwick, N.Y.) crossed the line first for the Stags with a time of 20:16 good for 24th overall. Senior Courtney Kincaid (Hanover, Mass.) clocked a time of 20:24 to place 28th overall in the 5K race. Kincaid improved upon last season's time of 21:12. Also competing in her first collegiate event was freshman Mary Morris (Milton, Mass.), who posted a time of 21:29 to finish third for the Stags. Rounding out the top-seven were freshmen Caroline Conant (East Longmeadow, Mass.), with a time of 21:46, Cara Feeney (Woburn, Mass.) in 22:32, and Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) in 22:32 followed by sophomore Jennifer Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) in 22:36.
Also competing for the Stags were senior Kelli Connors (Douglas, Mass.) with a time in 22:50 followed by senior Liz Casey (Avon, Conn.), with a time of 22:58, junior Megan Krueger (Cheshire, Conn.) in 23:20 and junior Missy Saviski (Pittsfield, Mass.), who posted a time of 25:59.
Boston University captured the men's team title while UConn was the runner-up and CCSU placed third. The Terriers also captured the women's title, followed by UConn, Marist, Rhode Island and CCSU.
