FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Junior Bryan Mahoney (Milton, Mass./Milton) finished third as the Fairfield University men's cross country team finished second in the 27th annual Fairfield Invitational, on Saturday afternoon, on the Fairfield campus.
The Sacred Heart men finished first with 27 points, followed by the Stags with 50 points, and Siena with 53. On the women's side Siena took home the team title with 28 points, just one point ahead of Sacred Heart (29), and Fairfield third with 66 points.
Matthew Uzenski of Sacred Heart won the men's race, with a 27:32.1, while Katherine Wrinkle of Sacred Heart won the women's race with a 19:04.3.
Mahoney, running in only his second race this season after missing time with an injury finished with a 27:48.8 over the five mile course to lead the Stags. Sophomore Justin Rindos (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) finished second on the team and eighth overall with a 28:26.6. Senior Matt Borland (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) finished 11th overall with a 28:55.2, followed closely by sophomore A.J. Kastanotis (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) with a 28:59.6 for 12th.
Senior Mike Dougherty (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) finished fifth on the team and 19th overall with a 29:47.2. Freshman Michael Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and sophomore Devin Hagen (Bedford, Mass./Billerica Memorial) rounded out the scoring for the Stags. Talmadge finished the course with a 30:43.4, and Hagen posted a 30:48.7.
On the women's side sophomore Shannon Kenefick (West Reading, Conn./Joel Barlow) was ninth overall for Fairfield with a 20:10.4. Junior Stephanie Stote (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic) was second on the team, and 12th overall with a 20:23.4.
The next three runner for the Stags finished in a pack, as junior Colleen Brasser (Pittsford, Conn./Mercy) finished 20:40.7 for 14th, junior Lauren Wilson (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) finished 15th with a 20:45.1, and sophomore Cara Muzik (Durham, Conn./Coginshaug Regional) was 16th with a 20:46.0.
Senior Taylor Dunn (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) was sixth on the team with 21:00.3, and sophomore Cara O'Connell (Westborough, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) closed the books on the Stags scoring with a 21:03.8.
Fairfield returns to action on Friday, Oct. 10, at the New England Championships at Franklin Park, in Boston, Mass.
