BOSTON - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the 91st annual men's, and 29th annual women's New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park, in Boston, Mass., on Friday afternoon.
Heading into the race 798 runners from 52 teams were registered in the women's race, while 702 entrants from 50 teams made up the field for the men's race.
Providence won the men's varsity race, while Brown won the women's crown.
On the men's side Bryan Mahoney finished the five-mile course in 26:44, while keeping a 5:26 pace throughout the race. Justin Rindos was second on the team with a 27:06. Matt Borland followed with a 27:42 time, and A.J. Kastanotis posted a 28:02 on the afternoon.
On the women's side sophomore Shannon Kenefick finished the three-mile race in 19:43, with a 6:20 pace. Stephanie Stote was second for Fairfield with a 19:51. Lauren Wilson was next with a 20:17, and Cara Muzik finished with a 20:33.
Both the men's and women's teams will have off until Holloween, to prepare for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The Stags will return to Franklin Park to run in the NCAA Northeast Regional in early November.
