NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's cross team finished fifth out of eight teams, and the men's cross country team finished seventh out of nine at the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet at Stanley Quarter Park, on Saturday afternoon.

In the women's race, junior Shannon Kenefick who finished the 3,322-meter course in 12:20 led Fairfield, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Stephanie Stote finished second for the Red and White with a 12:24, followed by senior Lauren Wilson with a 12:36. Freshman Megan Krueger followed with a 13:19, and Courtney Kincaid crossed the finish line with a 13:27.

UConn. won the team portion of the race, followed by Rhode Island, Wagner, Holy Cross, the Stags, Central Connecticut State, Hartford, and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Senior Bryan Mahoney was the top runner for the Fairfield men with a 16:05 to finish 18th overall in the 5k men's race. Junior Justin Rindos was a mere one-second behind Mahoney for a 19th overall finish. Freshman Craig Sabatini was third on the team with a 16:52; A.J. Kastanotis registered a 16:56. Andrew Lawrence had a 17:12, John Lacagnina followed with a 17:16, Matt Ginn had a 17:24, and Devin Hagan had a 17:25.

UMass. won the team competition, followed by Rhode Island, Holy Cross, Long Island, Central Connecticut State, Wagner, the Stags, Hartford, and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Fairfield heads to Orlando, Fla., next weekend for the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Cross Country Championships, at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
