LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Fairfield University women's cross country team finished sixth, and the men's cross country team finished seventh, on Saturday morning at the 2004 JetBlue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
Iona College won the men's race, and Marist College won the women's race.
The Fairfield women were led by Lauren Wilson who finished 17th overall with a 23:04.40, she was followed by Shannon Kenefick who crossed the finish line in 23:23.56 for a 21st overall finish. Stephanie Stote was third on the team and 27th overall with a 23:38.82. Megan Krueger finished the 6k race withy a 24:24.78, and Courtney Kincaid posted a 24:27.47. Kara O'Connell had a 25:01.34, and Liz Casey had a 25:39.27 to round out the top seven for the Stags.
In the team standings, the Red Foxes were followed by Iona, Loyola, Manhattan, Siena, the Stags, Rider, Canisius, Niagara, and Saint Peter's.
The Fairfield men were led by Bryan Mahoney who finished 25th overall with a 27:01.89. Justin Rindos was second on the team and 35th overall with a 27:30.63. AJ Kastanitis followed with a 28:29.51. Craig Sabatini running in his first MAAC Championships crossed the line in 28:53.69, and was followed by John LaCagnina with a 28:55.67. Andrew Lawrence 29:13.42, and Matt Ginn rounded out the top seven with a 29:17.02.
In the team championships, Iona was followed by Manhattan, Marist, Loyola, Siena, Rider, the Stags, Canisius, Niagara, and Saint Peter's.
Fairfield returns north for the 2004 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Van Cortlant Park in the Bronx, on Saturday, Nov. 13.
