BRONX, N.Y. - The Fairfield men's and women's cross country team competed the 2006 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships this afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. Freshman Kaitlyn Hurley (Warwick, N.Y.) was the top-finisher for the Stags on the women's side while Dan Ryan (Reading, Mass.) led the way for the men.

Hurley clocked a time of 24:29.6 for her sixth-consecutive top-finish of the year. Senior Courtney Kincaid (Hanover, Mass.) posted time of 25:21.7 while sophomore Devann Ard (Watchung, N.J.) recorded a time of 26:19.5. Freshman Mary Morris (Milton, Mass.) was the Stags' fourth finisher with a mark of 27:17.9 and was followed by sophomore Jen Booton (Tinton Falls, N.J.) in a time of 27:39.7, freshman Caroline Conant (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in 28:53.8 and freshman Ashley Doran (Brick, N.J.) in 29:08.6.

On the men's side, Ryan continued to be the Stags' top finisher posting a time of 37:19.2. Duncan Gerity (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the second Stag to cross the line with a time of 38:02.0 while freshman Kevin Manke (Ridgewood, N.J.) was third with a mark of 38:32.4. Senior John Worrall (Totowa, N.J.) was next with a time of 38:43.0 followed by John Fields (Taftville, Conn.) with his time of 40:55.6, freshman Chris Rhodes (York, Maine) with a time of 41:17.3 and John LaCagnina (East Meadow, N.Y.) in a time of 43:12.6

The women placed 33rd overall. Boston College was the Northeast Regional Champion with 82 total points, edging out Iona, which collected 85 points. The men placed 34th overall while Iona captured the event..

Fairfield will wrap up the 2006 season next week as it returns to Van Cortlandt Park on November 18 to compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
