FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University men's and women's cross country Head Coach Jennifer Wyshner announced on Wednesday, the 2004 men's and women's schedules, which will commence on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Central Connecticut State Invitational, at Stanley Quarter Park, in New Britain, Conn.

Wyshner, who will begin her first season, at the helm of the Fairfield men's and women's cross country program, has slated a nine-race schedule for the Stags in 2004. After the initial race of the season, in which the men' finished fifth, and the women finished sixth last season, the teams will head to the Fordham Ram Invitational on Sept. 11, at the fabled Van Cortlandt Park, in the Bronx, N.Y.

The Ram Invitational will be the first of three appearances for the Stags at Van Cortlandt Park this season.

The teams will return to action on Friday, Sept. 24, at the Connecticut Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Quinnipiac University, to close out the month of September. In 2003 both teams finished fifth, at the same race.

Then, Fairfield will return home for the 28th running of the Fairfield University Cross Country Invitational, on Saturday, Oct. 2. Last season, the men finished second, thanks to Bryan Mahoney's third place overall finish and the women finished third paced by Shannon Kenefick's ninth overall finish.

A week later, both teams will head to another famed site in the cross country world, Franklin Park, in Boston, Mass., for the 2004 New England Championships. The race will give the teams a sneak peak, at the course for the NCAA qualifier later in the season.

The Stags will be off until, Saturday, Oct. 23, when they head back to New Britain, for the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet, for the last race before the championship season, which begins on Friday, Oct. 29, at the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, at Van Cortlandt Park.

Last year both teams finished sixth at the MAAC Championships, Mahoney was the top male runner for the Stags, with a 24th overall showing, and Kenefick was the top female runner for the Stags finishing 18th.

After the MAAC Championships both teams will take part in the 2004 NCAA Northeast Regional Qualifier at Franklin Park, on Saturday, Nov. 13. Then it is back to Van Cortlandt, for the 2004 ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22.
