FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday Sept. 11, for the Ram Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. Both teams opened the 2004 season at the Blue Devil Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn., last Saturday afternoon. Senior Stephanie Stote led the women's team, in a race that was marred by equipment failure. Only the time of the women's winner was recorded, and no Fairfield runner received an official time. So this week, the Stags will have a fresh start at the famed Van Cortlandt Park course. Lauren Wilson finished second for the Fairfield women, followed by Courtney Kincaid, Kara O'Connell, Megan Kruger, and Shannon Kenefick. The men's race last Saturday, did not feature any of the timing difficulties of the women's race, and senior co-captain Bryan Mahoney finished 13th overall with a 28:09. Freshman Craig Sabatini finished second on the team with a 30:30, followed by Justin Rindos (30:52), Devin Hagen (30:54), and A.J. Kastanotis (32:06). Last year at the Fordham Invitational, the men's team finished 15th overall while the women finished 11th. Wilson is the top returning runner from last season's race, as she registered a 20:43. Stote also was among the scorers for the Fairfield women with a 21:03. Rindos was the top finisher for the men's team with a 28:29. Last Saturday, Head Coach Jennifer Wynsher made her collegiate head coaching debut at the Blue Devil Invitational. After this week's race at the Ram Invitational, both the men's and women's teams will take part in the 2004 Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn., before hosting the 28th running of the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 2.
