FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams will host the 28th running of the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday. The women's race is slated to start at 12 p.m., and the men's race should go off about 12:45 p.m.

The start/finish line will be adjacent to Lessing Field, on the Fairfield campus.

Last year the men finished second, and the women finished third.

Besides both the men's and women's teams, the Stags will be joined with men's and women's teams from Hofstra, Pace, Sacred Heart, Siena, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Saint Peter's will compete in the men's race.

Both teams took part in the Quinnipiac Invitational, last Friday afternoon. The women finished seventh out of 12 teams, and were led by Stephanie Stote who traversed the course in 20:19.6, for a 20th overall finish.

Lauren Wilson posted a 20:57.8, followed by Shannon Kenefick with a 21:03.1, Kara O'Connell with 21:05.4, Megan Kruger with a 21:37.9, Courtney Kincaid with 21:45.1, and Liz Casey with a 22:07.0.

The men, were led by Bryan Mahoney who finished 20th overall with a 27:26.2, as the men's team finished eighth out of 13 teams. Following Mahoney was Justin Rindos with a 28:26.4, Devin Hagen with a 29:13.6, AJ Kastanotis with a 29:29.7, and Craig Sabatini with a 29:36.5.

Last year, Mahoney finished third overall in the men's race with a 27:48.8 over the five-mile course. Kenefick was the top runner for the women's team with a 20:10.4 to finish ninth overall.

After the Fairfield Invitational, the Stags will head to Boston, Mass., for one of the most prestigious races in the Country, the New England Championships, at Franklin Park.
