The Fairfield cross country team will head to the 2006 MAAC Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 27 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The men's 8K race will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by the women's 6K race at 3:20 p.m.

Both teams, well-rested from their two-week break, are ready for competition. The Stags are coming off successful performances at the Sherwood Island Mini Meet held on Oct. 14. The women's team captured the event as freshman Kaitlyn Hurley led the way with a time of 16:28 on the 4,000m course. Hurley has been the Stags top-finisher in the last four meets. Senior Dan Ryan led the men with an eighth-place time of 21:51 to help them to a third-place finish. Ryan has crossed the line first for Fairfield in all five meets this season. At last year's MAAC Championships, the women finished eighth while the men finished ninth. Courtney Kincaid was the second-finisher for the Stags with a time of 25:19.9 while Devann Ard registered a time of 26:14.1 in her first MAAC Championship. Liz Casey crossed the line in a time of 26:26.6 while Jennifer Booton clocked a 26:43.3 For the men, John LaCagnina was the third Fairfield runner to cross the line in a time of 29:01.2 while Ryan was close behind in 29:50.6. Duncan Gerity followed with a 30:07.3 while J.D. Worrall finished with a 30:14.5. John Fields made his way around the course in 30:20.6 while A.J. Lawrence clocked a 31:05.2.

As for the rest of the conference, on the men's side, Iona College, ranked third in the nation, will look to claim its 16th consecutive (20th overall) title. While for the women, No. 19 Iona will seek their second straight cross country championship.
