EDISON, N.J. - Eight Fairfield University men's and women's cross country runners garnered spots in the 2004 New York Lottery Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team, on Saturday evening at the MAAC Cross Country Championships, at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

Both teams had four runners on the men's and women's teams, as 43 student-athletes comprised the men's team, and 42 student-athletes made up the women's team.

Senior John Fields, junior Devin Hagan, senior Bryan Mahoney, and junior Justin Rindos all earned selections to the men's team, while sophomore Courtney Kincaid, junior Maryellen Pribish, senior Stephanie Stote, and senior Lauren Wilson were named to the women's team.

Mahoney is making his third appearance on the team, and Hagan and Rindos are each making their second appearance on the team.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Iona led the men's team with 10 members, followed by Marist with nine, Manhattan and Niagara with five, the Stags with four, Saint Peter's and Siena with three, Canisius with two, and Loyola and Rider with one.

On the women's side, Siena had 11 student-athletes to lead the way followed by Loyola with five, the Stags and Manhattan with four, and Canisius, Iona, Marist, Niagara Rider, and Saint Peter's rounded out the team with three athletes.

At the 2004 MAAC Championships, the Fairfield women finished sixth, while the Fairfield men finished seventh. Mahoney was the top Fairfield runner with a 27:01.89 to finish 25th overall. Wilson led the Fairfield women with a 17th overall finish, crossing the line in 23:04.40.

Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, for the NCAA Northeast Regional, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
