Kamintzky and Gariano Earn MAAC Weekly Honors

May 21, 2007

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Pitchers Rob Gariano (Nutley, N.J.) and Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y.) were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after each fired one-hit complete game shutouts against Rider on May 17.

Gariano (3-7) went the distance in the opening game against the Broncs, allowing just one hit, a double in the fifth inning, while striking out four batters. After giving up the lone hit of the game, the rookie mowed down 14 consecutive batters until the ninth inning when he allowed a two-out walk. He also set down 13 of the first 14 batters he faced. It is the second time this season that Gariano has tossed a complete game shutout and marks the third complete effort of the year for the right hander. Gariano, who earned his second Rookie of the Week honor, concludes his first season with a 4.04 ERA in 12 appearances. He was second on the team in strikeouts with 46 and second in innings pitched with 64.2 innings.

Kamintzky (5-4) threw his second complete game and first shutout of the year in the nightcap against the Broncs. He went seven innings, allowing one hit, a double in the first inning, with four strikeouts while not walking a single batter or allowing a runner to advance past second base. After Rider's Jon Leise reached on an error with one out in the second inning, Kamintzky retired the final 16 batters of the game. In addition, Kamintzky became Fairfield's career innings pitched leader with 256.2 innings, breaking Keefe Cato's mark of 252 set in 1979. Kamintzky also tied Steve Becker for third in career wins (17), and brought his career strikeout total to 210, good for second all time, and moved into in career appearances (50). Kamintzky finishes the season with a 4.03 ERA in 11 appearances and a team-high 53 strikeouts in 60.1 innings of work.

Fairfield, winners of five of its last seven games, concludes the 2007 campaign with an 18-28 overall record and 12-14 mark in conference play.
