Peter Allen Earns All-MAAC First Team Honors

May 23, 2007

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Designated hitter Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was selected to the First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after a breakout junior season with the Fairfield University baseball team. Allen led the squad in every major offensive category, set a single season program record, and earned national rankings in three offensive categories.

Allen started 45 games, posting a team-best .380 batting average, with a team-high 35 RBI and 35 runs scored. He also had a .626 slugging percentage, good for second in the conference. His slugging percentage was also the third-highest in program history and the best since 1996. Allen also drew 22 walks and belted five homeruns, to reach a standing of third in the MAAC in on-base percentage (.466) and total bases (102). He notched 23 doubles on the year to set Fairfield's single season record, a mark that had not been touched since 1996, and currently leads the conference in that category.

He was nationally ranked throughout the season in doubles, batting average, and slugging percentage and currently ranks fourth in the country in doubles per game (.51). Allen achieved his highest national ratings on April 8 as he was second in doubles per game (0.60), 24th in slugging percentage (.736), and 42nd in batting average (.417) out of 100 batters in NCAA Division I.

The New York native had 19 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games this season. He maintained a 31-game on-base streak that ended on April 18. He also recorded an 11-game hitting streak in the latter portion of the season.

Allen opened the 2007 campaign by being named the MAAC Player of the Week on March 6 after hitting .500 with three doubles, two home runs, five RBI, and four runs scored in a three game series at Delaware State.

Allen is the first Stag to earn All-MAAC First Team accolades since 2005 when Doug Anderson received the honor.

In addition, Allen was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. Senior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y.), junior Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.) and sophomore Dave Jermine (North Haven, Conn.) were also selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Fairfield concluded its 2007 campaign with an 18-28 overall record and 12-14 mark in the MAAC.
