Peter Allen to Play in New England All-Star Game at Fenway Park
Jun 20, 2007
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Designated hitter Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) continues to be recognized for his stellar play for the Fairfield University baseball team, garnering two more postseason accolades. Allen was selected to play in the New England All-Star Game at Fenway Park on July 22 after receiving first team honors from the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association (NEIBA). In addition, the junior received second team All-Northeast Region accolades from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Allen is the first Stag to play in the New England All-Star game since Ryan Holsten pitched during the event in 2001. The game will begin at approximately 7 p.m. after the Major League contest between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox.
A first team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selection, Allen had a breakout junior season, leading the squad in every major offensive category, setting a single season program record, and earning national rankings in three offensive categories.
Allen started 45 games, posting a team-best .380 batting average, with a team-high 35 RBI and 35 runs scored. He also had a .626 slugging percentage, good for second in the conference. His slugging percentage was also the third-highest in program history and the best since 1996. Allen also drew 22 walks and belted five homeruns, to reach a standing of third in the MAAC in on-base percentage (.466) and total bases (102). He notched a league-best 23 doubles on the year to set Fairfield's single season record, a mark that had not been touched since 1996.
He was nationally ranked throughout the season in doubles,
batting average, and slugging percentage and currently ranks third
in the country in doubles per game (.51). Allen achieved his
highest national ratings on April 8 as he was second in doubles per
game (0.60), 24th in slugging percentage (.736), and 42nd in
batting average (.417) out of 100 batters in NCAA Division I.
The New York native had 19 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games
this season. He maintained a 31-game on-base streak that ended on
April 18. He also recorded an 11-game hitting streak in the latter
portion of the season.
Fairfield concluded its 2007 campaign with an 18-28 overall record and 12-14 mark in the MAAC.
