Stags Edge Western Michigan 6-5

BRADENTON, Fla. - After nearly two hours of delays due to rain and lightning, sophomore Matt Tiagwad delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth inning to lift the Stags to a 6-5 victory against Western Michigan.

With the score knotted at 5-5 with one out in the eighth, Tiagwad singled home Albie DeSimone for the game winning RBI.

Tiagwad finished the day 2-for-4 while DeSimone went 2-for-3, including a double, with two RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Peter Allen had a pair of doubles on the day to extend his on-base streak to 23-straight games, which dates back to last season.

With the win, Fairfield improves to 2-4. Western Michigan had their five-game winning streak snapped and fall to 6-2 on the year.

The Stags will head down to Fort Myers, Fla. tomorrow, March 5, to face Florida Gulf Coast at 6pm.
