
Tucker Nathans Named MAAC Baseball Rookie of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University's Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week after a solid performance for the Stags. Nathans extended his hitting streak to seven games by batting .538 in addition to four RBI and three runs scored.
Along with his seven hits, Nathans walked three times, was hit by a pitch and did not strikeout in 13 at-bats. The shortstop posted an on-base percentage of .647 and a slugging percentage of .769.
In the series opener and win against Niagara on March 29, had the best outing of his young career. Nathans went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. One of his hits was a three-run homerun, the first of his career.
Nathans, who is also a member of the Fairfield men's soccer team, is batting a team-best .365 with a team high 23 hits. In 20 games this season, he has scored seven runs, has driven in six, and has stolen four bases.
This is the second-straight week in which a Stag has received weekly honors from the conference. Last week, sophomore Rob Gariano (Nutley, N.J.) was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game shutout.
Fairfield (5-16, 3-3 MAAC) returns to the diamond on April 2 when it hosts Fordham at 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Diamond. The Stags hit the road on April 3 for a trip to UConn before resuming MAAC play, April 5-6, at Saint Peter's.
