NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to in-state foe Yale this evening at Yale Field. The Stags (10-22, 8-4 MAAC) fell, 3-0, in the opening game and 8-2 in the nightcap.

Five members of the Yale (17-18-1) pitching staff combined for the shutout in game one, holding the Stags to six hits. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Josh Cox crossed the plate on a Stefan Scrhopp double. Yale added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Senior Ryan Calabrese (Wantagh, N.Y.) took the loss after allowing just one run on three hits in three innings of work. Junior Dan Gallagher (Allendale, N.J.) threw two innings, allowing three hits and two unearned runs. Sophomore Rick Piccirillo (Trumbull, Conn.) retired all three batters he faced in the sixth and final inning.

In game two, Yale opened up a 5-0 lead after three innings of play. The Stags got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) and Matt Tiagwad (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) scored on a bases-loaded fielding error by the Bulldogs. Yale got the pair of runs back in the bottom half of the stanza and took an 8-2 lead on an RBI single by Schropp.

Sophomore Kevin Fico (Stamford, Conn.) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in two and a third innings. Sophomore Scott Gussaroff (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) went two and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on five hits.
