HAMDEN, Conn. - Despite multi-hit games by three Stags, the Fairfield University baseball team fell to Quinnipiac, 3-0 this afternoon in a non-conference contest at Bobcat Field. Seniors Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.) and Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and sophomore Jason Rago (Fairfield, Conn.) each went 2-for-4 on the day for Fairfield (11-26).

Quinnipiac's Eric Weber picked up the win going scattering seven hits and striking out four batters in seven and a third shutout innings. Reliever Joe Duffy earned the save by throwing the last inning and two-thirds allowing just one hit. Sophomore Rick Piccirillo (Trumbull, Conn.) had a solid outing scattering three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in six and a third innings of work. Junior Dan Gallagher (Allendale, N.J.) allowed just one hit in one and two-thirds innings.

Quinnipiac (9-25) struck in the bottom of the second inning as Peter Kummerfeldt led the frame off with a double and came around to score on a groundout by Blake Barone to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead. Neither team would score again until Bobak Emamian's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh which made the score 3-0 in favor of Quinnipiac.

Fairfield had several chances to score throughout the game but stranded eight runners. In the top of the third, the Stags put runners on first and third but were unable to capitalize on the three Quinnipiac errors in the frame.

The Stags threatened again in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Allen doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Dave Brizzolara (Norwood, N.J.) followed with a walk but the Stags were unable to push any runs across the plate.

With one out in the eighth inning, the Stags placed runners on first and second on singles by Desimone and Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) but Duffy was able to get the ground ball for the inning-ending double play.

The Stags resume Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this weekend, April 26-27, when Fairfield travels to Iona.
