Baseball Drops Last Road Game 16-3 to Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -  The Fairfield University baseball team dropped its last road game of the year with a tough 16-3 loss to Stony Brook this afternoon. 

Freshman Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 on the day with his third homerun of the year. Sophomore Matt Tiagwad (Mt. Laurel, N.J.)  went 2-for-5 with a run scored. 

Nathans put the Stags (13-28) on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-run homer to right center. The Seawolves (25-16) responded in the bottom of the second inning as Michael Tansey hit a three-run homer to put Stony Brook on top, 3-2. The Seawolves added seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 10-2 lead. Stony Brook tacked on another run in the fifth to move ahead 11-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, Mike Weiner (Easton, Conn.) got the run back for the Stags with a sacrifice fly which plated sophomore David Dudish (Olney, Md.). Stony Brook responded by putting five runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 16-3. 

Senior Ryan Calabrese (Wantagh, N.Y.) took the loss. He was charged with 10 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits in three and two-thirds innings. Freshman Dan Belding (Holbrook, N.Y.) pitched the final two scoreless innings allowing just three hits. 

Fairfield will play its final nine games at home beginning with a doubleheader against LeMoyne on May 3 at noon.
