FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield had its late-inning rally fall short in the opening contest, falling to LeMoyne, 4-3, but the Stags rebounded in game two with a 6-2 victory behind a complete game effort by sophomore Kevin Fico (Stamford, Conn.). Senior Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.) helped power the Fairfield (14-29) offense with five hits on the day.

DeSimone had an outstanding day at the plate, going a combined 5-for-9 at the plate three runs scored and an RBI.

Fico (1-6) earned his first win of the season after scattering two runs on four hits in seven innings. Fico, who took a shutout into the sixth inning, also fanned four batters while walking just one Dolphin. LeMoyne's (23-20) Luke Nellis was charged with the loss going five innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits with six strikeouts.

In their victory in the second game, the Stags put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) got the scoring started with a two-run homer to left field, his fourth of the season. With two on and two outs, junior Mike Joyce (Smithtown, N.Y.) doubled off the fence in right center to plate Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Brian Rudolph (Washington Twp., N.J.) and make the score 4-0.

LeMoyne broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth on a solo homer by Chris Murphy. The Stags answered in the bottom half of the inning as senior Pat Hoban (Malvern, Pa.) laced a single up the middle to drive in two runs and make the score 6-1. The Dolphins added one more in the top of the seventh as pinch runner Don Schaaf scored on a passed ball.

In game one, LeMoyne's Eric Beaulac was nearly untouchable as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. After DeSimone posted the Stags' first hit with a leadoff single, Beaulac and the Dolphins defense kept Fairfield off the board until the eighth. Beaulac (7-2) went seven and two-thirds innings scattering one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the top of the second inning by posting three runs. They opened up a 4-0 lead in the top of the third on a RBI double by Phil St. Amant.

The Stags mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth by loading the bases. Sophomore David Dudish (Olney, Md.) hit into a fielder's choice allowing DeSimone to score from third. With two outs, the Stags reloaded the bases, but LeMoyne was able to stop the rally. Fairfield continued the comeback in the bottom of the ninth as DeSimone roped an RBI double to left field to make the score 4-2. DeSimone then came around to score on a two-out single by Matt Tiagwad (Mt. Laurel, N.J.). The Dolphins' Tom McDermott, however, checked into the game and was able to record the final out of the inning.

Sophomore Rob Gariano (Nutley, N.J.) went seven innings in the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Freshman Dan Belding (Holbrook, N.Y.) threw two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit.

Fairfield and LeMoyne are scheduled to conclude the series tomorrow with a single game at noon.
