Baseball Concludes Non-Conference Play With 7-2 Loss to LeMoyne

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to LeMoyne College this afternoon to conclude its non-conference portion of its schedule. The Stags were held to just four hits on the day while the Dolphins posted 12 hits five of which were for extra bases. 

Left fielder Chris Edmondson put LeMoyne (24-20) on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-run homer to right field. Fairfield (14-30) answered in the bottom half of the frame as freshman Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) doubled to right center to plate senior Pat Hoban (Malvern, Pa.). The Dolphins' Aaron DiFruscio made the score 3-1 in the top of the second with an RBI single to center. 

Fairfield made it a two-run game in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brian Rudolph (Washington Twp., N.J.) which scored sophomore David Dudish (Olney, Md.). Dudish led off the inning with a single to center. In the top of the sixth, LeMoyne's Chris Murphy hit a two-run homer to make the score 5-2. Later in the inning, Edmondson singled through the right side to drive in his third run of the game and make the score 6-2. LeMoyne added one more run in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by Phil St. Amant. 

LeMoyne's Jeff Tardiff (4-3) earned the win after two runs, one earned, on three hits. Daniel Tunison earned the save after tossing the final three innings, allowing a walk and a hit while striking out two batters. 

Junior Doug Ciallella (Clifton, N.J.) fell to 2-4 on the year after going five and a third innings, giving up six runs on nine hits. Sophomore Dan Urbanovich (Nutley, N.J.) pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit while striking out two batters. 

Sophomore Jason Rago (Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Mike Joyce (Smithtown, N.Y.) picked up the other two hits for the Stags. 

Fairfield returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next weekend as it host conference leader Canisius beginning with a doubleheader on May 10. Prior to the game on May 11, Fairfield will honor its senior class.
