Baseball Falls to Bowling Green 11-3 in Florida Finale

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Fairfield University baseball team dropped is finale in the Sunshine State falling to Bowling Green 11-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (1-6), behind right-hander Brennan Smith, held Fairfield (1-6) to a pair of singles with six strikeouts in the first five innings.

Bowling Green opened the scoring in the second inning, added three more in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the 8-3 lead.

Fairfield posted a three-run seventh inning. Bill Rafferty got things started for the Stags with leadoff single. Tyler Wosleger followed with a walk while Chris Horning singled to load the bases. Mark Skrapits reached on error to push Rafferty across the plate. Ryan Furbeck then singled to second base to plate Wosleger. Skrapits later came around to score on a fielder's choice. The Falcons responded by scoring three of their own in the bottom half of the frame.

Doug Ciallella took the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.

Fairfield is back in action on March 10 at Hartford.
