OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Junior Bill Rafferty (Guilderland, N.Y.) and freshman Tyler Wosleger (East Hampton, Conn.) each drove in runs in the top of the tenth inning to help lift the Fairfield University baseball team to a 5-4 victory over NYIT this afternoon.

Fairfield (3-7) entered the bottom of the ninth with a 3-2 lead when NYIT (3-9) tied it up on a fielder's choice by Dane Hardy. Fairfield answered in the top of the tenth, as sophomore Tucker Nathans (Warwick, N.Y.) led things off with a double to left field. With runners on first and second with one out, Rafferty roped a single to right field to plate Nathans and give the Stags the 4-3 lead. With the bases loaded, Wosleger flied to deep center allowing junior David Dudish (Olney, Md.) to score from third to provide the Stags with an insurance run. In the bottom of the frame, the Bears' Mike Morrelli cut the gap to 5-4 with a homerun to left field but Fairfield was able to hang on for the win.

Junior Justin Servino (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate win by tossing the final two innings. Junior Scott Gussaroff (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) pitched well for the Stags, scattering two unearned runs and seven hits over eight innings with five strikeouts in the no-decision.

NYIT got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as a Fairfield miscue led to two runs. The Stags answered in the top of the third inning with a two-run effort of their own. With two on and two outs, Nathans singled to right field to score Wosleger from second base. Junior Matt Tiagwad (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) also touched the plate on the play scoring on a throwing error by the rightfielder. With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the fifth inning, Nathans grounded into a fielder's choice which allowed Larry Cornelia (Dix Hills, N.Y.) to score the go-ahead run.

Nathans and Rafferty each went 2-for-5 on the day while Nathans picked up two RBI.

Fairfield will play its first game at Alumni Diamond on March 16 as the Stags host UConn at 3pm. Fairfield heads to St. John's on March 17 before returning home to host Quinnipiac on March 19. The Stags open MAAC play on March 21 with a doubleheader against Siena.
