BRADENTON, Fla. - The Fairfield University baseball team began its spring break trip on Sunday morning, falling to Duquesne University, 10-2. The loss drops Fairfield to 1-5 on the season, while the Dukes improve to 2-9 overall.

The Stags began their seven-game trip to the "Sunshine State," against the Dukes at the IMG Sports Academy.

Fairfield got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, as senior catcher Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) stroked a two-out RBI-single, plating senior centerfielder Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland). Girolamo led the inning off with his first double of the season.

Junior second baseman Brian Schappert (Wyckoff, N.J./Saint Joseph's University) put Fairfield on the board again in the top of the seventh, as he roped a double, which scored sophomore left fielder Tyler Birrittella (Tarrytown, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) who doubled off Duquesne reliever Keith Myer.

Sophomore right fielder Adam Chilelli (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) reached base three times for the Stags as he had a pair of singles and a fielder's choice. Senior third baseman Dewey Raymond (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) also reached base three times as he walked and singled twice for the Stags.

Duquesne was led by Aaron Janusey who was 2-for-4 with a homerun and four runs batted in. Eric Morrison was 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

Fairfield will continue its southern swing on Monday morning, as it faces Valparaiso University at 10 a.m.

Notes... Fairfield starter, junior Ed Kamintzky struck out three hitters to record the 100th strikeout of his career ... The all-time series with Duquesne is now tied at 1-1 ... Girolamo and senior first baseman John Scaife extended their hitting streaks to three ... Chilelli and Raymond each had their first multi-hit game of the season.
